The World’s 50 Best Restaurants will hold it’s annual gala on the 19th of June at Palacio Euskalduna.
This was revealed today by the organisation of said prestigious awards, known as the gastronomy Oscars, in a press release which referred to the Basque Country as one of the best gastronomic destinations in the world given its rich culinary culture, its high concentration of renowned restaurants and its famous “pintxos”.
In the report, The World´s 50 Best Restaurants highlighted that, working in collaboration with the Regional Council of Biscay, this year’s edition will be held over 5 days with the participation of chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers, the media and opinion leaders in the gastronomy sector.
“It is both a pleasure and a privilege that Biscay will play host to a gastronomic event with such highly held international prestige. We are delighted and working hard to make sure this edition of The World´s Best Restaurants will be both unique and unforgettable. We can assure all visitors that they will feel right at home with us here.”Unai Rementeria
Accordingly, the activities and events will take place between the 16th and 20th of June. The main event, the ceremony in which the anticipated list of the 50 best restaurants in the world will be announced, will be held on the 19th of June at Palacio Euskalduna and will include a red carpet welcoming event and a celebratory party after the awards ceremony in San Mamés. This will be the grand finale to an official programme of events commencing on the 17th of June at the Basque Culinary Center, the venue selected to play host to the #50BestTalks; a series of conferences regarding culinary developments and trends with the presence of some the most distinguished chefs in the international arena.
The World´s 50 Best Restaurants will blend art and gastronomy at the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum on the 18th of June at an event which has been specially designed for this year’s edition. And The Chef’s Feast will take place on that date; the annual private function attended by the top chefs from around the world. This dinner is now a classic event making up the official programme, but this year the chefs will enjoy the genuine Biscay countryside and tastes as they will experience a traditional Basque grill in the beautiful Atxondo valley.
William Drew, Editor of the British editorial group which draws up the list, has underlined the fact that the awards are returning to Europe and are doing so in one of the greatest gastronomic destinations in the world: Following recent editions of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in New York and Melbourne, we could not be more delighted to be returning to Europe to host our programme of events in Biscay, one of the top gastronomic destinations in the world.
“Without a doubt, Bilbao will be the ideal location in June for lovers of fine cuisine and inspiring restaurants.”William Drew
The President of the Provincial Council of Biscay, Unai Rementeria, also provided words of assurance that this year’s edition will be unique and unforgettable: It is both a pleasure and a privilege that Biscay will play host to a gastronomic event with such highly held international prestige. We are delighted and working hard to make sure this edition of The World´s Best Restaurants will be both unique and unforgettable. We can assure all visitors that they will feel right at home with us here. We are a small region where gastronomy is not only for pleasure but it is also our culture. Basque cuisine is a reflection of our values. It is a combination of tradition, respect and quality. And just as is the case in the kitchen, Basque people are believers in quality and doing things properly. We look forward to welcoming you.
Chefs, restaurateurs, sponsors, critics, journalists and influencers from the world around will visit Biscay during this event with international outreach and impact. And everyone will be able to enjoy activities which are planned outside the official programme as well as discovering and experiencing the scenic treasures of the Basque Country, Basque culture and the wealth of local products.
